TECHNICAL TOUR

Argonne National Laboratory Argonne Argonne/Fermilab Tour
Friday 8 April 2011
07.30-17.00

$75 per person

Join your colleagues on a scientific tour of two of the most respected research facilities in the United States.

Argonne National Laboratory seeks solutions to pressing national problems in science and technology. The nation's first national laboratory, Argonne conducts leading-edge basic and applied scientific research in virtually every scientific discipline. Argonne researchers work closely with researchers from hundreds of companies, universities, and federal, state and municipal agencies to help them solve their specific problems, advance America’s scientific leadership and prepare the nation for a better future.

Argonne’s Nuclear Engineering Division staff members will conduct visitors through several of Argonne's experimental facilities used for research in behaviour of LWR commercial nuclear reactor materials, fuel recycle, and advanced reactor designs. Visitors will also tour Argonne's Nuclear Energy Exhibit and learn about current and future directions of Argonne's nuclear energy research programs.

FermilabThe Department of Energy promotes scientific and technological innovation to advance the national, economic and energy security of the United States. As part of the DOE strategic goals, Fermilab's mission is to advance the understanding of the fundamental nature of matter and energy. Fermilab's world-class scientific research facility allows qualified researchers from around the world to conduct fundamental research at the frontiers of high-energy physics and related disciplines.

The tour includes an introduction to Fermilab, a guided walk-through of the Linear Accelerator building and the 15th floor of Wilson Hall, and a concluding question-and-answer session with a Fermilab scientist.

Lunch will be provided during the tour.
